The Maple River Ladies Pink Ribbon Fundraiser was founded by a group of women who share a passion for golf and community. They wanted to use their weekly ladies night gatherings to do something good and raise money for women’s cancer. In 2006, they created the pink ribbon scramble, which has been held annually ever since. For several years, the funds raised were donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Later, the funds were directed to the Edith Sanford Breast Center, where they continue to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
In 2020, a committee was formed to bring fresh ideas on how to expand and have a greater impact on smaller, local organizations. The focus was on supporting local causes that could make a significant difference. Funds raised in 2020 and 2021 were donated to Pink It Forward, a local 501c3 organization that provides care packages to those currently undergoing breast cancer treatment and offers scholarships to students who have been affected by a family member’s breast cancer diagnosis. In 2020, the fundraiser exceeded its goal and raised $7,400. In 2021, the fundraiser nearly doubled that amount by raising $13,200.
In 2022, the fundraiser shifted its focus to financially assist individuals in the community undergoing treatment for breast cancer or other health illnesses. The fundraiser partnered with Lend A Hand Up, a 501c3 organization that raises financial help for area families experiencing hardship due to a health issue or other traumatic event. A gift card program was initiated to help women with medical, grocery, gas, and other expenses. In 2022, the fundraiser raised $18,116.62, which helped 36 local women. In 2023, the fundraiser raised $29,315.63, which in turn helped 58 women in the Fargo-Moorhead area!
We understand that any illness can have a significant financial impact on a person. Our goal is to make a big difference in the lives of others by putting in a little effort each year. We are grateful to our committee members, volunteers, community, local & non-local businesses, Maple River Golf Course and the 144 women who attend our event annually for their support. Without them, none of this would be possible.
